KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's tennis team fell to Toledo in a hard-fought match at Sorensen Courts on Sunday afternoon.
As did the first match between the two teams in Toledo, Sunday's also came down to the final singles match. The match was decided by No. 1 singles between WMU's
Anton Arzhankin and UT's Pawit Sornlaksup. Arzhankin took the first set 6-2, but Sornlaksup countered by winning the second set 6-4. The two battled to a 3-3 tie before Sornlaksup separated and pulled ahead to win the final set 6-3.
DOUBLES
WMU earned the doubles point on wins by No. 2 and No. 3. The Rockets won at No. 1 but the Bronos responded with a win at No. 3 by
Ferdinand Schlueter and
Matej Kajzer, 6-2, over Adam Kovac and Cole Cozens. The point was clinched by
Benjamin George and
Drew Evans after they defeated Hanamichi Carvajal and Poonthong Komolpisut, 6-4.
SINGLES
Komolpisut tied up the match at 1-1 after defeating WMU's Kajzer 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5.
Jackson Boone pushed the Broncos ahead 2-1 with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Carvajal at No. 3. Toledo's Charlie Snow tied it up at 2-2 with a 6-3, 6-2 over
Dimitri Moriarty, while Cozens gave the Rockets their first lead after a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 4 over
Ashton Adesoro. George tied it up at 3-3 with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2 over Marko Galic.
Western Michigan hosts Ball State on Friday at 1 p.m. The Broncos will celebrate its four seniors Boone, George,
Brogan Pierce and Schlueter prior to the match.
