Women’s Basketball To Host Bowling Green

KALAMAZOO, Mich.--The Western Michigan women's basketball team will host Bowling Green on Wednesday, March 6, at University Arena. Game time is slated for 7:00 PM and the game will be streamed on ESPN+.

Last time out, the Brown and Gold lost to Toledo 84-69 at University Arena on Saturday. During the contest, redshirt sophomore De'Ahna Richardson and freshman Nile Muguira Orbe led the Broncos after combining for 22 points, while shooting 6-13 from the field as a duo from beyond the arch.

As for senior Hannah Spitzley, her two three-pointers against the Rockets broke her tie with Sarah Hurrle (2000-01) for possession of the 21st most threes made for the Brown and Gold all-time in the program record books. During the contest, Spitzley improved her career total to 78 career treys and is now six three-pointers away from passing Jessica Jessing (2012-16) for the 20th most three-pointers made all-time for an athlete in a Bronco uniform.

Additionally, senior Gabi Saxman's two swipes versus Toledo extended her career total to 124 steals. Saxman is now 13 swipes away from passing Michelle Fortier (1990-93) for the 18th most steals accumulated for the women's basketball program.

Bowling Green is led by fifth year Morgan Sharps and junior Amy Velasco. The two are averaging 15.6 points per game and 14.4 ppg respectfully for the Falcons. On the boards, senior Erika Porter paces BGSU with 6.6 rebounds per game in 27 contests. In their last matchup, the Falcons defeated Miami (OH) 66-47 behind Sharps' game-high 29 points after hitting seven three-point field goals.

The Broncos trail the Falcons in the all-time series 36-42 leading into Wednesday's action. A win over Bowling Green will snap a three game losing streak against the Falcons.

MAC Tournament Outlook

As of Tuesday afternoon, the Broncos are sixth in the MAC standings and are two games behind Buffalo and Bowling Green for the fourth and fifth seeds. Tomorrow, Buffalo will host Central Michigan at 6:00 PM.
