Western Michigan Slips Up at Home Against BGSU

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's basketball team dropped its penultimate game of the regular season on Tuesday night, 73-65, to Bowling Green at University Arena.

Seth Hubbard led the trio of Broncos in double-figures with 12 points, while B. Artis White had 11 and Anthony Crump added 10. Crump also snared 10 rebounds to collect his third double-double of the campaign.

The contest was low scoring in the early going, with the teams deadlocked at 9-9 until Western Michigan (11-19, 8-9 MAC) tallied seven points in a row to pull in front, 16-9, at the 9:49 mark of the period. WMU kept Bowling Green (18-12, 9-8) scoreless for four-and-a-half minutes during the run.

Later in the half, the Falcons ripped off nine consecutive points to take a 29-24 advantage. The Broncos scored the next five to even things up, but BGSU notched the final basket before halftime to take a 31-29 edge into the locker room.

Owen Lobsinger picked up the first bucket after the break to knot the score at 31-31, but BGSU took the lead right back with the next four points. Bowling Green's advantage stayed between one and four until Crump took the ball to the basket and laid one in to bring the contest back even at 54-54 with 9:05 to play.

The Falcons countered with an 8-2 spurt to grab a 62-56 edge at the 5:35 mark. A five-point Western Michigan run briefly closed the gap to one, 62-61, but the next six points and 11 of the final 15 of the evening went to BGSU, as the visitors put the game away.

The Broncos made 25-of-58 (43.1 percent) of their field goal attempts in the contest, while Bowling Green connected on 28-of-60 (46.7 percent) from the field.

Western Michigan can clinch a spot in the 2024 Mid-American Conference Tournament on Friday night as it welcomes Akron to University Arena for the regular season finale at 6 pm. Friday is Senior Night for Western Michigan, and the game will be aired nationally on CBS Sports Network. For tickets, visit wmubroncos.com/tickets.
