DEKALB, Ill. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team fell in a last-match heart-breaker, 4-3, at Northern Illinois on Sunday.
DOUBLES
The Huskies took the doubles point after wins at No. 2 and No. 3, with the No. 1 match going unfinished.
SINGLES
NIU pushed its lead to 2-0 after Nataly Ninova defeated
Ariane Souligny, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 4. The lead was extended to 3-0 after Diana Lukyanova beat
Valeriya Monko at No. 2, 7-5, 6-4.
Polina Khotko got the Broncos on the board with a 7-5, 3-6, 6-0 win over Isabella Righi at No. 3.
Lindsey Zieglar then got WMU within one after a 6-7 (10-12), 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 1 over Erika Dimitriev.
Maya Perkucin tied up the match at 3-3 after a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 5. The deciding match came down to No. 6 singles between WMU's
Audrey Smitek and NIU's Jenna Horne. Smitek won the first set 6-2, but Horne took the second 6-4. Smitek had a lead in the third set but Horne battled back to take the set 7-5 and the match for NIU.
Western Michigan welcomes Ball State on Friday at 10 a.m. Admission is free.
