MUNCIE, Ind. – The Western Michigan men's tennis team saw its 10-match winning streak snapped as it fell on the road to Ball State on Friday afternoon.
The loss was also WMU's (12-4, 4-1 MAC) first in conference play this season.
DOUBLES
Each team won a match 6-2, with the Broncos taking the advantage at No. 1 on a win by
Anton Arzhankin and Jackson Boon. BSU's Eli Herran and Sanjin Smith won at No. 3, with the deciding match at No. 2 between WMU's
Benjamin George and
Drew Evans and the Cardinals' Jacks Lancaster and Mason Tran. Ball State got the best of Western Michigan at No. 2, with Tran and Lancaster prevailing 7-6 (8-6).
SINGLES
WMU tied it up after a two-set win by George, 6-0, 6-2, over Nathaniel Webster at No. 1. The Broncos then took a 2-1 advantage after freshman
Ashton Adesoro dispatched Tran at No. 4, 6-4, 6-3. Arzhankin extended the lead to 3-1 with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Vince Orlando at No. 2. But from then on it was the Cardinals winning two matches in three sets. Herran defeated Boone 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5) at No. 3, but it was Lancaster defeating
Matej Kajzer 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5 that put BSU over the top.
The Broncos are back at home next Friday, hosting Buffalo at 2 p.m., and then welcoming Toledo on Sunday at 1 p.m.
