Richmond Homers for Third Straight Game on Saturday

YPSILANTI, Mich. – Western Michigan junior CJ Richmond homered for the third consecutive game in an 11-4 WMU loss at Eastern Michigan on Saturday afternoon.

Richmond opened the scoring with a three-run shot in the top of the first which gave Western Michigan the early 3-0 advantage. In addition to it being the third straight game in which the junior hit a home run, it was also his fourth straight multi-hit effort. Richmond is now tied for the team lead with six homers this season and his hitting streak is up to 16 in a row.
 
Eastern Michigan answered in the home half of the frame, pushing across six runs, three of which were unearned. The Eagles got two more in the second to extend the margin to 8-3.
 
The contest remained 8-3 until the fifth, when a Michael Maloney ground ball allowed Grady Mee to beat out a throw to the plate and score.
 
The Eagles responded again in the bottom of the inning with an unearned run to push the margin back to five, 9-4.
 
Western Michigan put a pair of runners on in the sixth, but could not cut into the deficit.
 
EMU capped the day with two insurance tallies in the eighth inning.
 
Western Michigan starter Brady Miller struck out six in his four innings of work to tie a season high. Of the 14 hits allowed by the WMU pitching staff, 13 were singles.
 
The Broncos and Eagles wrap up their three-game weekend series on Sunday with a doubleheader. First pitch for game one of the twin bill is slated for 12 pm.
