TOLEDO, Ohio – The Western Michigan women's tennis team opened Mid-American Conference play on Saturday, falling at Toledo, 7-0.
DOUBLES
Toledo took the doubles point after a 6-2 win at No. 1 by Cassie Alcala and Julia Kusynski over
Lindsey Zieglar and
Valeriya Monko. The Rockets then on at No. 3, with Gaby Rondon and Shalini Tallamraju defeating
Karin Hamilton and
Polina Khotko, 6-3.
SINGLES
Kuszynski defeated
Julia Frazier at No. 6 in two sets, 6-1, 6-0 to put Toledo up 2-0. Audrey Moutama earned a win over
Audrey Smitek at No. 5, 6-1, 6-4 to push the score to 3-0. Rondon secured the match-winning point with a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 3 over
Ariane Souligny. Alcala, Tallamraju, and Sloan Teske then picked up wins to complete the sweep of the Broncos.
Western Michigan continues MAC play, hosting Bowling Green on Friday at 1 p.m.
