BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Western Michigan men's tennis team extended its winning streak to nine matches after dispatching Buffalo, 4-3, on the road on Friday afternoon.
WMU improved to 3-0 in MAC play with the victory.
DOUBLES
UB put the pressure on the Broncos early with a 6-4 win at No. 3 by Daniils Snaiders and Fin Macnamara over
Ferdinand Schlueter and
Matej Kajzer.
Benjamin George and
Drew Evans tied it up at 1-1 with a 6-3 win over Artem Aleksechuk and Theodoros Mitsakos at No. 2. The doubles point came down to the No. 1 match between WMU's
Jackson Boone and
Anton Arzhankin versus the Bulls' Cheng Tang and Yu-Shiang Huang. The two teams battled to a 5-5 tie before Arzhankin and Boone won the final two games to take the match and give the Broncos a 1-0 lead heading into singles.
SINGLES
Buffalo tied the match at 1-1 thanks to a win by Yunhan Jiang over
Dimitri Moriarty, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 6. But that was the lone singles match to be decided in two sets, the other five went the distances. The Bulls took a 2-1 lead with Tang defeating Boone at No. 3 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.
The Broncos tied it back up after George defeated Aleksechuk at No. 2, 4-6. 6-3, 6-3 but Buffalo countered with a win at No. 5 by Michael Malkin over
Matej Kajzer, 6-3, 6-7 (2-7), 6-3. Arzhankin extended his singles win streak to nine after tying the match with a 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 over Snaiders. Freshman
Ashton Adesoro clinched the match with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 win over Mitsakos at No. 4 for the fourth and final point.
The Broncos are back in action on Sunday at Toledo at 1 p.m.
