Men's Tennis Wins Eighth Straight After Downing NIU, 5-2

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan extended its winning streak to eight, thanks to a 5-2 victory over Northern Illinois on Sunday afternoon at West Hills Athletic Club. The win pushed WMU's record to 10-3 overall and 2-0 in Mid-American Conference play.
 
DOUBLES
The Huskies grabbed an early lead in the match, thanks to wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots. Benjamin George and Drew Evans dominated at No. 2, earning a 6-2 victory for the Broncos' lone win of doubles play. Jackson Boone and Anton Arzhankin fell, 6-4 at the No. 1 spot, while Ferdinand Schlueter and Adrian Quiros dropped their match at No. 3, 6-1.
 
SINGLES
Despite losing the doubles point, singles play was all Broncos. Arzhankin made quick work of Cheng En Tsai at No. 1. Arzhankin posted a 6-4, 6-0 victory to extend his singles winning streak to seven. That leveled the match at 1-1.Then, George was able to post a 6-3, 6-2 win over Mikael Vollbach to push the Brown and Gold in front, 2-1. Jackson Boone extended the WMU lead to 3-1 with a victory at the No. 4 spot in the lineup. He upended Iker Gaztambide, 7-5, 6-1.

NIU was able to make things interesting with a 6-2, 6-4 victory from Saul Berdullas at the No. 3 spot. He defeated Ashton Adesoro. However, the Broncos would go on to win the next two matches to secure the 5-2 victory. Dimitri Moriarty clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Chris Norlin at No. 6. Matej Kajzer ended the match with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Armin Koschtojan to extend his singles winning streak to seven.

Western Michigan will hit the road for a match against Buffalo on March 15. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
