Grady Mee Named MAC Player of the Week

CLEVELAND – Western Michigan sophomore second baseman Grady Mee has been named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. It marks the second straight week a Bronco has been selected as the MAC's Player of the Week, after senior first baseman Cade Sullivan was honored as Co-Player of the Week last Monday for the opening week of the season.

Mee had a huge weekend in Western Michigan's four-game sweep at Pepperdine, as he went 8-for-14 (.571) with eight runs scored, six RBIs and a .684 on-base percentage. The sophomore had two hits and scored at least once in each of the four games.

In Friday's series opener, Mee launched a fourth-inning grand slam, his first homer of the season, to put the Broncos on top, 6-4. The Brown and Gold went on to win that contest 11-4, and after his grand slam, they did not trail for the rest of the weekend.

After racking up four hits and three runs in Saturday's twin bill sweep of the Waves, Mee capped his weekend by going 2-for-3 with two walks, two RBIs and three runs scored as Western Michigan finished its four-game sweep with a 19-1 victory. It marked the first time WMU swept a four-game series since it broomed a four-game set against Akron in April of 2021.

Western Michigan heads down to South Carolina for its next seven games, starting on Friday night as it takes on Michigan State at Fluor Field in Greenville, home of the MiLB's Greenville Drive. First pitch between the Broncos and Spartans is slated for 6 pm and the contest will be streamed on the Drive's YouTube channel.
