YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Western Michigan women's tennis team improved to 7-2 on the season after a 5-2 win at Youngstown State on Friday afternoon.
DOUBLES
The Broncos struck first in doubles, with
Valeriya Monko and
Lindsey Zieglar winning 6-0 at No. 1. Youngstown State responded with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 to take the doubles point.
SINGLES
WMU used a strong singles showing to flip the match. Monko won at No. 3 over Elinor Beazley 6-2, 6-2. Ziegler picked up a win over Eliska Masarikova 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 at No. 1 to give the Broncos the lead. Western Michigan's other three points came as three-set singles wins by
Karin Hamilton,
Maya Perkucin and
Ariane Souligny. Hamilton was slotted at No. 2 and won 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 over Julia Marko. Perkucin earned a 6-3, 5-7, 6-0 win at No. 5 over Lili Minich, while Souligny won 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 over Yeseniia Ovcharova at No. 6.
The Broncos have a double-header on Saturday, playing Cleveland State and St. Bonaventure, beginning at 10 a.m. against the Vikings.
