CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Western Michigan women's tennis team picked up a pair of road wins at Cleveland State on Saturday, downing the Vikings 4-3 and defeating St. Bonaventure 4-0.
In the opening match, the Vikings took the doubles point after wins at No. 2 and No. 3. CSU pushed its lead to 2-0 after Ella Franz defeated
Ariane Souligny 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5. The Broncos got on the board after
Valeriya Monko defeated Tereze Vevere 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3.
Karin Hamilton tied up the match, 2-2, with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Sima Heren at No. 2. Filippa Frogner retook the lead for the Vikings after a 2-6, -2, 6-0 win over
Maya Perkucin at No. 6.
Lindsey Zieglar tied the match up at 3-3 with a 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 1 over Oihane Vicario.
Polina Khotko won the match with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 decision over Bethany Yauch at No. 4.
In the afternoon, the Broncos earned the doubles point with Zieglar and Monko defeating Isabella Venter and Anastasia Gubanova at No. 1, 6-3. Hamilton and Khotko secured the point with a 6-2 win at No. 2 over Cirkeline Lundberg and Abbie Taylor.
Monko, Souligny and
Sofia Balsera all picked up the points in singles. Monko won at No. 1, 6-4, 6-1 over Gubanova. Souligny earned a win at No. 4 6-1, 6-3 and Balsera earned a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 6.
The Broncos now head out West to Arizona to take on the Wildcats and Nevada.
