KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team remained undefeated at home this season after a 6-1 win over Oakland at West Hills Athletic Club on Friday afternoon.
DOUBLES
The Broncos secured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3.
Valeriya Monko teamed up with
Ariane Souligny at No. 1 to defeat Emilia Jarvinen and Edie Hammond 6-4. At No. 3 it was
Maya Perkucin and
Polina Khotko were first off the court with a 6-1 win over Tara Montreuil and Aya Orenstain, 6-1.
SINGLES
Freshman
Julia Frazier picked up her first career dual-match singles win and gave the Broncos a 2-0 lead with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Orenstain at No. 6. Monko was bumped up to No. 1 due to injuries and responded by giving WMU a 3-0 lead with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Jarvinen.
Polina Khotko was moved up to No. 2 and earned a 6-1, 6-2 win over Hammond to clinch the match victory for the Broncos. Perkucin got WMU its fifth point with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Alma Orenstain at No. 5, while Souligny earned the team's sixth and final point with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Hultqvist.
The Broncos head on the road next weekend to take on Youngstown State, Cleveland State and St. Bonaventure.
