Charlie Sharp Signs With Toronto FC

TORONTO, Ontario – Western Michigan soccer alumni Charlie Sharp has officially signed with Toronto FC. Toronto FC did not disclose the financial details of the contract. 

In 2023, Sharp accumulated 19 goals (seven game winning goals), eight assists, and a total of 46 points. All four categories set or tied career highs for Sharp in a single season. Additionally, his 46 points and 19 goals led the NCAA  in all of division one men's soccer for 2023. 

Sharp won a plethora of awards this year and became Western Michigan's first-ever MAC Hermann Trophy finalist. Leading into his MAC Hermann nomination, Sharp had a fantastic run in the final half of the 2023 campaign as he scored or assisted in nine of his last 10 matches. During his 10-game span, Sharp averaged 1.2 goals, 0.7 assists, and 3.1 points per game. At the conclusion of the 2023 season, the forward from Brighton, Michigan, ranked first in the NCAA with 0.95 goals per game, 2.30 points per game, and was tied for second with seven game-winning goals. The striker concluded his career at WMU with 42 goals, 22 assists, and 106 points in 89 games played. 

Sharp will leave Western Michigan as one of the greatest to ever wear a Bronco uniform. He is ranked first all-time in program history in career goals, tied for fourth with teammate Dylan Sing in career assists, and is tied with Sing for first in program history with 89 caps for the Brown and Gold.

Sharp's signing with Toronto FC extends the WMU men's soccer program to a third professional signing in a single off-season.
