ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Western Michigan track and field team posted strong results in its opening meet of the season. The team competed at the GVSU Holiday Open earlier today.Â
Tess Van Dyk and
Bri'Yanna Robinson were strong in the throwing events, with Van Dyk competing in the shot put and Robinson taking part in the weight throw. Van Dyk finished second with a throw of 14.79 meters, while Robinson was sixth with a mark of 17.10 meters.Â
In the 60-meter hurdles,
Jade Celestine made her WMU debut, qualifying for the finals in the event. She posted a time of 9.00 in the finals.
Soniya Jones and
Layla Wallace were strong in the 400-meter dash, earning times of 1:01.27 and 1:03.01, respectively.Â
Continuing with the sprints, Wallace had a time of 26.99 in the 200-meter dash. The distance crew saw
Rebekah Asselin,
LaJeanee' Porter and
Reagan Viau perform well in the 800-meter run. Asselin paced the team with a time of 2:16.47. Porter crossed the finish line in a time of 2:26.21, while Viau was able to register a time of 2:32.23.Â
