Four Broncos Named Academic All-District

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – For the third year in a row, four members of the Western Michigan volleyball team have been named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® Team. Fifth-year setter Logan Case and fifth-year libero Andelyn Simkins earned the honor for the third consecutive year, fifth-year outside hitter Keona Salesman earned the accolade for the second straight season and graduate student outside hitter Anna Calcagno was a first-time honoree.

A French major with a 4.00 GPA, Case was recently named to the AVCA North All-Region First Team and was an All-MAC First Team selection for the fifth straight season after ranking second in the nation in assists per set (11.79) and third in total assists (1,379). Already WMU's all-time leader in assists entering 2024, Case became the Mid-American Conference's all-time assists leader in the MAC Championship match against Ball State. She collected 43 helpers in that contest and went on to earn MAC Championship Tournament MVP for the second straight year as the Broncos won their second straight tournament title and punched their ticket to their second straight NCAA Tournament. Case finished her Western Michigan career with 6,476 assists, fifth-most in NCAA Division I history.

Like Case, Simkins was recently named AVCA All-Region and was voted the MAC Defensive Player of the Year and to the All-MAC First Team for the second consecutive season. A Sport Management major with a 3.67 GPA, she led the MAC and was 20th nationally in total digs (562) and ranked second in the conference and 38th nationally with 4.80 digs per set. Simkins finished her career fourth in Western Michigan program history and eighth in MAC history with 2,262 digs.

A Biomedical Sciences major with a 3.97 GPA, Salesman paced Western Michigan in both total kills (362) and kills per set (3.18) this season. She totaled double-digit kills 20 times in 2024, and her 3.18 kills per set ranked as the ninth-best mark in the conference.

Owner of a 3.78 GPA, Calcagno graduated from WMU over the summer with a degree in Marketing. The graduate student recorded double-digit kills nine times this fall and finished tied for third on the Broncos in kills (247) and third in kills per set (2.75). Calcagno was also third on the team in both block assists (44) and total blocks (46).

The 2024 Academic All-District® Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance on the court and in the classroom. The CSC All-America® program separately recognizes volleyball honorees in four divisions – NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

Case and Simkins have been selected to advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot.
