KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan volleyball team celebrated Senior Day on Saturday with a straight-set victory (25-17, 25-18, 25-11) over Miami, its ninth consecutive victory.

After hitting .438 on Friday, Western Michigan turned it up another notch on Saturday, hitting a new season-high .453 in the contest. Case fueled the attack with 37 assists, and set up four of her fellow Senior Day honorees for eight or more kills. Salesman led the way with 10 kills on a .556 hitting percentage (10-0-18), Merz had nine kills on 12 swings (.750), Marr produced nine kills on a .292 hitting percentage, and Calcagno tallied eight kills while hitting .467.
Defensively, the Broncos limited Miami to an .083 hitting percentage. Western Michigan held a 10-3 advantage in blocks, led by Merz's match-high six (1 solo, 5 assists) rejections. Case, Marr and
Mary Clare Brusek contributed three blocks apiece. Simkins led WMU in digs with 10 and Case chipped in eight.
Western Michigan got out to a hot start, hitting .538 with just one attack error in the first set. Leading 8-6, the Broncos used an 8-2 run to build a 16-8 cushion. Miami got as close five, 21-16, before WMU put it away by notching four of the last five points.
With the RedHawks clinging to a 5-4 edge in the second, Western Michigan rattled off six consecutive points to move ahead, 10-5. At 20-15, the Broncos tallied another four in a row, which included two kills and a solo block by Salesman, to get to set point. Miami fought off three set points before Salesman's fourth kill of the frame sealed it and put the Brown and Gold ahead 2-0 in the contest.
In the third, WMU broke a 6-6 tie with six consecutive points which ignited a 16-3 surge to make it a 22-9 advantage for the home team. Overall, the Broncos took 19 of the last 24 points in the final frame.
Western Michigan closes out the regular season with a two-match series at Ball State. First serve for the series opener against the Cardinals is slated for Friday at 6 pm on
ESPN+.
