COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Western Michigan University men's soccer team continues its NCAA Tournament run on Sunday, November 24 at #1 seed Ohio State University. Kickoff is scheduled at 5:00 PM and the match will be available on ESPN+.
Last Time Out
The Broncos dominated in their 5-1 victory over Southern Illinois University Thursday and set two new program records in an NCAA Tournament game. On Thursday, WMU scored a program-best five goals en route to posting their largest margin of victory during an NCAA tournament contest. Graduate student forward Greyson Mercer scored a game-high two goals, while graduate student midfielder Owen Smith, redshirt freshman defender Christian Shannon, and graduate student defender Duarte Chapelas scored one goal each in the victory.
In the win, junior Carson Hodgson continued to climb through the program ranks and increased his career total to 22 assists. His 22 assists tallied are the fourth most produced by a Bronco ever.
Scouting The Buckeyes
Ohio State enters Sunday's contest with a 14-1-3 record and is winners of three straight. On the year, the Buckeyes feature one top-10 victory – a 2-1 road win at #10 University of Maryland on Sunday, November 3.
This season, the Scarlet and Grey have recorded eight shutouts and 14 multi-goal games. Offensively, the Buckeyes feature six student-athletes with over 10 points on the season, including senior midfielder Michael Adedokun, who is tied for 18th in the nation in total points. The midfielder paces the Buckeyes with a team-best 27 points (eight goals, 11 assists).
Series History
The Brown and Gold and OSU are knotted up at 1-1-2 in the overall series dating back to 1981. After recording one loss and one tie in their first two matches against the Buckeyes, WMU has earned one win and one tie.
