KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan volleyball team had five different players record five or more kills on Saturday as it swept Toledo (27-25, 25-19, 25-10) for the second consecutive night. It was the season-high sixth straight win for the Broncos.

Logan Case handed out 33 assists, with
Julia Marr and
Madison Merz benefitting from Case's distribution with a team-high 10 kills apiece.
Anna Calcagno (6 kills),
Keona Salesman (6) and
Mary Clare Brusek (5) all added to WMU's offensive balance.
On the defensive side, three Broncos recorded double-digit digs, led by
Andelyn Simkins' 18.
Reeghan Boyer had 12 digs and
Carley Piercefield chipped in 10.
Toledo got out to an 8-5 advantage in the early stages of the opening frame. At 11-8, Western Michigan tallied four consecutive points to briefly move ahead, 12-11, only to see the visitors answer with three in a row to wrestle the lead back, 14-12.
With the Rockets back up by three, 20-17, the Broncos tallied six of the next seven points to take a 23-21 edge. UT countered with three in a row and had set point opportunities at 24-23 and 25-24, but WMU fended it off both times to draw level at 25-25. The Brown and Gold broke the tie with a block, and Calcagno then hammered down the decisive kill to claim the set, 27-25.
Western Michigan tallied the first nine points of the middle frame. The Rockets worked the margin down to five, 11-6, but WMU used a three-point spurt to boost the lead back to eight, 14-6. Late in the set, Toledo got all the way back to within three on a few occasions, including at 22-19. The Broncos buckled down and notched the next three points, with Case serving up an ace to claim the set and put the hosts up 2-0 at the break.
The Brown and Gold raced out to a big lead again in the third, grabbing 10 of the first 13 points. At 13-6, Western Michigan tallied four in a row to increase their advantage to 17-6. The margin never dipped below 10 for the remainder of the evening, as WMU sealed its sixth consecutive victory.
