KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's basketball team had five players score in double-figures in a 92-69 victory over Canisius in the final game of the Bronco Classic on Sunday afternoon at University Arena.
Markhi Strickland led the Broncos (2-3) with a career-high 15 points.

Owen Lobsinger and
Brandon Muntu all netted 14 points apiece, while
Seryee Lewis went 6-for-6 from the floor for 13 points.
Western Michigan handed out 24 assists on its 38 field goals, fueled by
Marquese Josephs' career-high seven helpers. Six different Broncos had at least two assists. WMU was plus-11 on the glass (39-28), with Lobsinger's nine boards leading the rebounding effort.
Canisius (0-5) started the game with a 13-4 run to grab the early advantage. Western Michigan then caught fire, ripping off 21 consecutive points to open up a 25-13 lead. During WMU's surge, its defense held the Golden Griffins without a point for more than 10 minutes.
An old-fashioned three-point play ended the visitors' drought, but the Broncos came right back with another nine straight points to boost the margin to 18, 34-16. Western Michigan took a 41-24 cushion into the locker room.
WMU's momentum carried into the second half, as the gap ballooned to 22, 50-28, with 15:28 to play. The Golden Griffins hit back-to-back three-pointers to cut their deficit to 50-34, but a 12-2 Western Michigan response took the home team's lead up to 62-36 near the midway point of the period. A seven-point burst, capped by a
Max Burton layup, gave the Brown and Gold their largest lead of the day, 72-42, with eight minutes left, and the margin remained above 20 for the remainder of the contest.
Western Michigan shot a season-high 63.3 percent (38-of-60) from the field, and hit 43.5 percent (10-of-23) from three-point range. Canisius connected on just 35.9 percent (23-of-64) of its field goals for the afternoon. The Broncos committed seven turnovers, their fourth single-digit turnover total in the season's first five games.
