KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's basketball team and head coach
Dwayne Stephens have announced the signing of Ypsilanti native Sharod Barnes to the program's 2025 recruiting class. Barnes is set to join the Broncos for the 2025-26 campaign.
"Sharod is a high-level, tough competitor who played on a state championship winning team," coach Stephens said. "He has great leadership qualities and excels on both ends of the court. We are thrilled to welcome Sharod and his family to Kalamazoo!"
A 6-2 guard, Barnes is set to head to Kalamazoo from Catholic League powerhouse Orchard Lake St. Mary's, the same program which produced current Bronco
JaVaughn Hannah. Last season, Barnes helped the Eaglets and head coach Todd Covert capture the MHSAA Division 1 state championship.
Entering his senior season, Barnes owns averages of 15.0 points and 4.0 assists per game during his high school career. A two-time All-Catholic League and BCAM's BEST selection, he excels in the classroom as well, boasting a 3.7 GPA.
