Abby Werthman Named to Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- After a historic performance in the MAC Tournament last week, senior forward Abby Werthman has been named to the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week. She is the third national team of the week honoree for the Broncos this season. 

Werthman finished the MAC Tournament with 10 points on four goals and two assists. After notching a goal in a 4-1 semifinal win over Kent State, Werthman's championship effort was the best individual performance in MAC history. She contributed on every goal in the 5-0 win over Buffalo, tallying a hat trick and two assists. 

Her eight points in the championship game were the most every in a single MAC Tournament match, breaking the old record of seven held by Miami's Andrea Cunningham and Eastern Michigan's Kate Lewis. Her three goals also tied the single-game MAC record. 

The Livonia, Mich. native is now up to 33 points on the season. She has 12 goals and nine assists. Werthman is climbing the single-season program records, as she sits in second in both goals and points.

Werthman and the Broncos will open NCAA Tournament play on Saturday, Nov. 16 at noon. WMU will travel to East Lansing, Mich. to take on Michigan State at DeMartin Stadium. Western Michigan is the last MAC school to earn a win in the NCAA Tournament.
