KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Redshirt freshman defender
Sammi Glover was selected as the Mid-American Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced this afternoon. The Broncos have earned a weekly award four times this season.
Glover helped Western Michigan remain undefeated in conference play and at the top of the MAC standings by scoring a goal in a 3-1 victory over Kent State on Saturday night. Trailing by one with under 16 minutes to play in the first half, Glover found some open space near the box and buried a shot by the goalkeeper to knot the game at 1-1. The goal was Glover's first in her career.
Not only did she provide the game-tying goal, but she played 50 minutes and helped WMU blank the Golden Flashes during her time on the pitch. After Glover entered the game, KSU didn't attempt a shot on goal the rest of the game.
Glover and the Broncos will be back in action on Thursday against Bowling Green. The game is set for 4 PM at the WMU Soccer Complex.
