UNITED STATES -- After earning a 2-1 road victory over Northern Illinois University on Saturday, October 12, the Western Michigan men's soccer team improved its positioning in the United Soccer Coaches Poll. With four games remaining in the regular season, The Brown and Gold stand at #13 in the national rankings.
In WMU's road victory over the Huskies, sophomore defender Braxton Arpachinda and junior midfielder Ronan Wilcox supplied both goals for WMU. With Wilcox's goal, at least 12 Broncos have scored in a campaign for the first time since 2019.
In the win, team captain Landon Fisher earned the fourth most appearances with 76 and counting for the Brown and Gold. Fisher is on pace to become only the third Bronco to play at least 80 games for WMU.
Up next, the men's soccer team will travel to Detroit, Michigan to face in-state rival Detroit Mercy on Tuesday, October 22 at 7:00 PM. Entering the contest, WMU is 16-0 in their last 16 matches vs in-state opponents. The men's soccer team has not suffered a loss against an in-state foe in over half a decade (since Sept 7, 2018).
After Tuesday's results, the Broncos boast the longest active unbeaten streak in the entire nation. The men's soccer team is on a 420-day unbeaten run with their last defeat taking place on August 24, 2023, against #12 University of Vermont. Overall, The Brown and Gold have completed 35 contests without a defeat.
