WMU Drops Road Tilt at Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Western Michigan men's basketball team had five different players score in double-figures in an 88-63 loss at Toledo on Tuesday evening at UT's Savage Arena.

Titus Wright went 6-for-10 from the field for 12 points to lead the five Western Michigan players in double-figures. Jefferson De La Cruz Monegro and JaVaughn Hannah netted 11 points apiece, while Anthony Crump and Seth Hubbard each tallied 10 points for the Broncos (8-13, 5-4 MAC). Crump paced the Brown and Gold on the glass with eight rebounds, and De La Cruz Monegro notched a game-high six assists.

Holding a 7-6 edge in the opening minutes, Toledo (14-7, 8-1) ripped off 13 consecutive points to ignite a 28-5 surge which put the hosts on top, 35-11, with just under nine minutes remaining in the period. Western Michigan countered with a 12-2 spurt to close the gap to 37-23. During the WMU run, the Broncos held the Rockets without a field goal for nearly four minutes. UT responded with one more charge before halftime to take a 48-27 cushion into the break.

An 8-0 run capped by a De La Cruz Monegro steal and dunk trimmed the margin to 56-39 with 14:39 to play. The Broncos could not get any closer for the remainder of the evening.

WMU made 45.6 percent (26-of-57) of its field goal attempts in the contest, while the Rockets connected on 63.5 percent (33-of-52) from the field.

Western Michigan returns to Kalamazoo on Saturday afternoon as it welcomes Ball State to University Arena. Tip between the Broncos and the Cardinals is slated for 1 pm. For tickets to any home WMU men's basketball game this season, visit wmubroncos.com/tickets.
