TOLEDO, Ohio – The Western Michigan men's basketball team had five different players score in double-figures in an 88-63 loss at Toledo on Tuesday evening at UT's Savage Arena.
Titus Wright went 6-for-10 from the field for 12 points to lead the five Western Michigan players in double-figures.
Jefferson De La Cruz Monegro and
JaVaughn Hannah netted 11 points apiece, while
Anthony Crump and
Seth Hubbard each tallied 10 points for the Broncos (8-13, 5-4 MAC). Crump paced the Brown and Gold on the glass with eight rebounds, and De La Cruz Monegro notched a game-high six assists.
Holding a 7-6 edge in the opening minutes, Toledo (14-7, 8-1) ripped off 13 consecutive points to ignite a 28-5 surge which put the hosts on top, 35-11, with just under nine minutes remaining in the period. Western Michigan countered with a 12-2 spurt to close the gap to 37-23. During the WMU run, the Broncos held the Rockets without a field goal for nearly four minutes. UT responded with one more charge before halftime to take a 48-27 cushion into the break.
An 8-0 run capped by a De La Cruz Monegro steal and dunk trimmed the margin to 56-39 with 14:39 to play. The Broncos could not get any closer for the remainder of the evening.
WMU made 45.6 percent (26-of-57) of its field goal attempts in the contest, while the Rockets connected on 63.5 percent (33-of-52) from the field.
