PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team improved to 2-1 on the season after a 4-0 sweep of Duquesne, on the road at Alpha Tennis & Fitness of Pittsburgh on Friday night.
DOUBLES
The Broncos picked up the doubles point after wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Lindsey Zieglar and Valeriya Monko gave WMU the early advantage after a 6-2 win at the top spot. The Dukes evened it out with a win at No. 3, 7-6 (7-3), by Ellen Shanahan and Taisia Yakunina over Ariane Souligny and Polina Khotko. Karin Hamilton and Audrey Smitek secured the point for Western Michigan after a 7-6 (8-6) thriller at No. 2 over Daniela Latoni and Jasa Roka.
SINGLES
The Broncos swept through singles with wins by Zieglar (6-4, 6-0) at No. 1, Monko (6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 and Souligny (6-4, 6-3) at No. 6. The three remaining singles matches went unfinished, with the match ending once the Broncos earned their fourth point.
WMU will take on St. Francis (PA) at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
