Broncos Edged by Boilermakers

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Western Michigan men's tennis team fell at Purdue, 4-3, on Friday evening in its first of two weekend matches in West Lafayette, Ind.
 
DOUBLES
WMU's Jackson Boone and Drew Evans picked up the early point with a 6-2 win at No. 1 over Marino Jakic and Juan David Velasquez. The doubles point came down to No. 2 and No. 3, with both matches going to the tie-breaker. Alexander Ekstrand and Aleksa Krivokapic tied it up at 1-1 after narrowly beating Matej Kazjer and Anton Arzhankin 7-6 (13-11). Henrik Villanger and Stefan Simeunovic secured the point for the Boilermakers after a 7-6 (7-5) win over Benjamin George and Ferdinand Schlueter.
 
SINGLES
Purdue pushed ahead, 2-0, after a win at No. 5 by Ekstrand over Kazjer, 6-3, 6-2. Arzhankin put the Broncos on the board with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Jakic. Mujtaba Ali-Khan pushed the Boilermakers' lead to 3-1 with a 6-0, 7-5 win over Adrian Quiros at No. 6. WMU freshman Ashton Adesoro picked up the second point for the Broncos after a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 4 over Velasquez. Krivokapic earned the match win for Purdue after a 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 win over George at No. 1 before Boone added WMU's final point with a 7-5, 1-6, 7-6 (8-6) win at No. 3.
 
Western Michigan is back at it again on Saturday afternoon in West Lafayette, taking on Denver at 2 p.m.
