Box Score BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team dropped a road contest at Indiana University, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon.
The Hoosiers swept doubles to go up 1-0 after a pair of 6-3 wins at No. 1 and No. 3.
The Broncos picked up points in singles at No. 2 by Karin Hamilton and No. 5 by Audrey Smitek. Hamilton improved to 2-0 after a 3-6, 7-6 (7-2), 1-0 (10-6) decision over Saby Nihalani. Smitek won in two sets over Sarah L'Allier, 7-5, 6-3. Senior Valeryia Monko took Nicole Teodosescu to three sets after splitting the first two 6-3, but fell in the final set 6-4. Sophomore Ariane Souligny also took her opponent to three sets, but dropped the final two after winning the opening one 6-4 against Li Hsin Lin.
Western Michigan heads to Pittsburgh, Pa., next weekend to take on Duequesne on Friday at 7 p.m. and Saint Francis on Saturday at 4 p.m. WMU then returns home to host Chicago State on Sunday, Feb. 4 at 12 p.m.
