EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's tennis team picked up its first road win of the season, defeating Brown, 5-2, at Michigan State University on Saturday afternoon.
The doubles point came down to a tie-breaker at No. 1. WMU's
Jackson Boone and
Drew Evans were deadlocked with Alex Finkelstein and Zander Bravo at 6-6, but it was the Bears that came out on top, 7-1, on the tie-breaker. The other win for BU came at No. 2, with Chun Lam and Noah Hernandez defeating Matej Kazjer and
Anton Arzhankin, 6-3. WMU's
Benjamin George and
Ferdinand Schlueter picked up a 6-3 win over Tim Dzurinskiy and Sam Feldman.
The Broncos separated themselves in singles play, winning five of the six matches. Boon was first off the courts with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Finkelstein, tying the match up at 1-1. Arzhankin put the Broncos ahead with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Dzhurinskiy at No. 2. Brown tied it up at 2-2 with a win at No. 5 by Bravo, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) over Kazjer. Freshman
Dimitri Moriarty pushed WMU ahead with a 6-0, 3-6, 6-4 win.
Ashton Adesoro clinched match for the Broncos after a 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 win over Alex Koong. George added the final point for WMU with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 victory over Noah Hernandez.
Western Michigan heads back on the road next weekend, heading to Purdue to take on the Boilermakers on Friday at 5 p.m. and then Denver on Saturday in West Lafayette at 2 p.m.
