Hockey Grabs 4-1 Victory Over Miami

OXFORD, Ohio – Thanks to a big game from Cameron Rowe in net and two goals from Zak Galambos, Western Michigan was able to grab a 4-1 victory over Miami on Friday night inside Goggin Ice Center.

Galambos led the way with two goals, while Matteo Costantini and Sam Colangelo each had one. Galambos, Colangelo and Carter Berger all had multi-point nights.

FIRST PERIOD
Western Michigan opened the game with a pair of good looks from Ethan Phillips and continued to apply pressure throughout the period. In total, WMU outshot Miami 13-6 in the first 20 minutes.

After a Costantini faceoff win, Colangelo ripped a shot on net that Miami goaltender Logan Neaton was just able to get a piece of.

However, just a couple of minutes later, the RedHawks would be sent off for high sticking. The Broncos continued their hot stretch on the power play, as Colangelo powered a shot by Neaton for a 1-0 WMU lead midway through the first frame.

After a few good looks from WMU in the middle portion of the period, the Broncos would head to the box late in the opening frame. The RedHawks carried over a minute of power play time into the second 20 minutes.

SECOND PERIOD
After killing off the rest of Miami's power play to begin the period, Western Michigan was able to earn a power play of its own shortly after. However, despite a few good chances, the RedHawks were able to get back to full strength.

Each team was assessed a penalty in the middle stages of the second frame, but no one would find the back of the net with a pair of players off the ice. Following the penalties, Rowe lost his stick in the net, but he was still able to make a pair of miraculous sprawling saves to keep Western Michigan in front by one.

With about six minutes to play in the second 20 minutes, the Brown and Gold received another opportunity on the power play. Costantini and Galambos each got shots, but Miami would again get back to full strength. WMU carried a one-goal lead into the final period.

THIRD PERIOD
The offense picked up in the final period, as both teams ramped up the pressure. After both teams traded blows for the opening minutes of the period, WMU finally broke through and collected the game's second goal, as Galambos ripped a shot by Neaton for what would eventually become the game-winning goal.

Following Galambos' goal, Miami was able to find the back of the net to get back within one. However, not long after that, Costantini was in front of the net and put in a rebound to increase the Broncos' lead to 3-1 with under four minutes to play.

Miami pulled its goalie late in the game, and Western Michigan was able to find another goal to cap off a 4-1 victory. Galambos netted his second goal of the game to secure the win.
