BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Western Michigan volleyball team opened its weekend at the Alyssa Cavanaugh Invitational in Bowling Green, Ky., with a straight-set win (25-18, 25-18, 25-18) over ETSU on Friday. The win improves WMU's record to 10-1, making it the program's best start to a season since the 1985 Broncos opened the campaign at 17-1.

FINAL SCORE: Western Michigan 3, ETSU 0

LOCATION: E.A. Diddle Arena (Bowling Green, Ky.)

Maggie King put down a match-high 14 kills to lead the WMU attack, while Keona Salesman added 10 kills. Logan Case set up her teammates to the tune of a match-high 34 assists. Western Michigan also served up eight aces for the afternoon, with four different Broncos contributing two aces apiece.

Defensively, both Andelyn Simkins (15) and Anna Calcagno (11) recorded double-digit digs. Sophomore Reeghan Boyer pitched in with eight digs. WMU limited ETSU to a .117 hitting percentage in the contest.

In the first set, King broke a 10-10 deadlock with three consecutive kills for Western Michigan. Her three kills sparked a 5-1 run which put the Broncos ahead, 15-11. ETSU got back to within one, 17-16, before WMU rattled off eight of the next 10 points to grab the 1-0 match lead. King hammered down eight kills in the first set.

The Broncos raced out to a 12-3 advantage in the second set. The Buccaneers whittled the margin down to four on multiple occasions, including 16-12, but WMU answered with five in a row to up its lead back to nine, 21-12. From there, Western Michigan kept ETSU at arm's length and headed into the break with a 2-0 edge in the match.

In the third, WMU broke a 4-4 tie with five consecutive points. A pair of three-point spurts helped Western Michigan extend its cushion to eight, 20-12. Once again ETSU could not recover, and the Broncos picked up their second straight-set victory in a row.
