KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team fell at home, 6-1, to Mid-American Conference leaders Ball State at Sorensen Courts on Friday afternoon.
The doubles point went down to the wire. Ball State took the early advantage with a win at No. 2 by Mariya Polischuk and Allison Mulville, 6-3, over Kaitlyn Rogosch and Ariane Souligny. Jessica Braun and Emily Desai then bested Karin Hamilton and Audrey Smitek at No. 3 in a tie-breaker, 7-6, to give the doubles point to the Cardinals. WMU's Lindsey Zieglar and Valeriya Monko had a 6-6 battle with Amy Kaplan and Annika Planinsek go unfinished.
Western Michigan's lone point came in singles, with Smitek defeating Elena Malykh 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (12-10). Zieglar lost in a super tie-breaker at No. 2 to Kaplan 6-7, 1-6, 1-0 (13-11).
The Broncos are back in action next Friday and Sunday, hosting Buffalo and Toledo at 1 p.m.
