KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team swept the Buffalo Bulls, 7-0, at Sorensen Court on Friday afternoon.
The Broncos (12-7, 3-4 MAC) were down early in doubles play after Pia Schwarz and Azra Deniz Comlek defeated Lindsey Zieglar and Valeriya Monko at No. 1, 6-3. WMU got one back with a 6-2 win at No. 2 by Kaitlyn Rogosch and Ariane Souligny over Lolina Sedas and Gabrielle Akopyan. Karin Hamilton and Audrey Smitek came back from being down 4-1 to win 7-5 at No. 3 over Ambre Amat and Deanne Choo to secure the doubles point for Western Michigan.
WMU from there in singles. Zieglar dispatched Schwarz at No. 1 6-2, 6-3 to push the lead to 2-0. Shortly after, Hamilton downed Comlek 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2o to make it 3-0. Monko clinched the match win after a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Basak Akbas at No. 3. Souligny picked up her 14th singles win of the season after a 6-2, 6-3 win over Akopyan. The Broncos completed the sweep with super tie-breaker wins by Rogosch and Smitek.
Western Michigan is back at home on Sunday but will most likely be indoors at West Hills Athletic Club. First serve is at 1 p.m.
