KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team fell in a hard-fought match to Toledo, 4-3, at West Hills Athletic Club on Sunday afternoon.
The Rockets earned the doubles point with a 6-1 win at No. 2 and a 6-2 win at No. 3.
Toledo pushed the lead to 2-0 with a win at No. 4 by Mariona Perez, 6-1, 6-1, over Mariona Perez. The Broncos (12-8, 3-5 MAC) cut into the lead after Karin Hamilton downed Sloan Teske 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2. UT put the lead back to two after Sanjana Tallamraju defeated Audrey Smitek, 6-1, 7-6 (7-1). Lindsey Zieglar dispatched Cassie Alcala 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 to cut the lead to 3-2.
Toledo clinched the match victory after Shalini Tallamraju beat Valeriya Monko 7-6 (7-2), 7-5. Freshman Arianne Souligny earned WMU's third and final point after a 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (7-3) win over Julia Kuszynski.
The Broncos wrap up the regular season next weekend at Bowling Green on Friday and Northern Illinois on Sunday.
