KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's tennis team advances to the Mid-American Conference Championship match on Sunday at 1 p.m. against Toledo, after defeating Ball State, 4-0, at West Hills Athletic Club.
The Broncos started off earning the doubles point to take an early 1-0 lead. Benjamin George and Ferdinand Schlueter earned a 6-2 win at No. 3 over Parrish Simmons and Jacks Lancaster. The Cardinals battled back with a 6-4 win by Vince Orlando and Eli Herran over Peter Kuszynski and Anton Arzhankin at No. 2. Fynn Lohse and Arjun Honnappa clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 win over Nathaniel Webster and Danilo Kovacevic at No. 1.
Honnappa pushed WMU's lead to 2-0 with a quick 6-1, 6-0 win over Kovacevic at No. 4 singles. Junior Jackson Boone added to the lead with a 6-3, 6-4 win against Broc Fletcher at No. 6. The match-clinching victory came from Lohse, with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Sajin Smith at No. 5.
The Broncos and Rockets split the regular season series, with each team winning on the road. First serve is at 1 p.m. and admission is free.
