CLEVELAND – Western Michigan senior gymnast Payton Murphy has been named the Mid-American Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week on Wednesday.

Murphy, who also earned MAC Gymnast of the Week, takes the honors after breaking her own program all-around record with a 39.550 in WMU's recent win over Northern Illinois. She also contributed to WMU breaking its program scoring record with a 197.100, the first time in school history the team has earned a score of a 197 or higher. On top of that, she helped WMU produce new team meet records on vault and bars. She finished second on vault, second on bars, second on beam and tied for first on floor.

Murphy, who carries a 3.98 GPA in nursing, and the Broncos close out the regular season on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Ball State. The meet can be watched live on ESPN3.
