Women's Tennis Rolls Past Tennessee State

DAYTONA, Fla. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team started off its Spring Break road trip with a 4-0 win over Tennessee State at Bethune-Cookman on Sunday afternoon.

The Broncos earned the doubles point after wins at No. 3 and No. 1. Karin Hamilton and Audrey Smitek gave WMU (7-3) the early advantage after a 6-2 win at No. 2. Lindsey Zieglar and Valeriya Monko clinched the point at No. 1 with a 6-3 win over Noami Von Bose and Warona Mdlulwa.

The teams played clinch, with the match stopping once one team got to four points. The Broncos rolled through singles with wins at No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 to claim the match. Monko won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 over Daniela Koleva, Ariane Souligny won at No. 5 over Aroa Arietta Castillo 6-0, 6-1 and Kaitlyn Rogosch won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 6 over Franka SIndicic. Ziegler, Hamilton and Smitek were all leading in the second set when the match finished.

Western Michigan is back at it again on Monday morning, taking on Bethune-Cookman at 10 a.m.
