DAYTONA, Fla. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team battle Bethune-Cookman to a 7-0 win on the road on Monday afternoon.
WMU won the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Lindsey Zieglar and Valeriya Monko made quick work of Diarra Thomas and Janet Imbo Nloga, 6-1. Karin Hamilton and Audrey Smitek won, 6-0, against Keona Burley and Loncey Elie at No. 2. Ariana Souligny and Kiana Rizzolo were awarded a win at No. 3 by default because BCU did not field a third team.
The Broncos (8-3) swept singles play, with five winning in two sets and Kaitlyn Rogosch being awarded a win by default due to no sixth singles player for the Wildcats. Ziegler didn't lose a game in her 6-0, 6-0 win over Thomas at No. 1, as did Maya Perkucin at No. 4 and Rizzolo at No. 5. Smitek won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 over Imbo Nloga, while Souligny earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 over Burley.
Western Michigan returns home to host Purdue University Northwest next Wednesday at 1 p.m. Admission is free.
