Broncos Pick Up Road Win at Eastern Michigan

YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team earned its first Mid-American Conference win of the season after a 5-2 victory at Eastern Michigan on Friday afternoon.

The Broncos (10-4, 1-1 MAC) started off strong, earning the doubles point after wins at No. 3 and No. 1. Karin Hamilton and Audrey Smitek gave WMU the advantage with a 6-2 win at No. 3 over Andrea Quiroz and Linde Eloundou Nga. The point was secured after Lindsey Ziegler and Valeriya Monko picked up a 6-4 win at No. 1 over Prerna Vichare and Sabrina Brichackova. Kaitlyn Rogsch and Ariane Souligny's match at No. 2 went unfinished, tied up at 4-4.

Western Michigan won three of its four singles matches in two sets, starting off at No. 1 with Zieglar. The senior defeated Quiroz quickly, 6-1, 6-0, to put the Broncos up 2-0. Souligny then earned a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6 over Eloundou Nga to push the lead to 3-0. EMU's Daniella Shved cut the lead to 3-1 with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4 over Maya Perkucin. Monko clinched the victory with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Wanyi Zhang at No. 3, with Karin Hamilton adding WMU's fifth and final point after a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 win at No. 2 over Vichare.

The Broncos head back on the road to take on Miami on Sunday at 1 p.m.
