TOLEDO, Ohio – The Western Michigan men's tennis team remained perfect in Mid-American Conference play, improving to 4-0 after a 4-3 win at Toledo on Sunday afternoon.
For the second straight match the Broncos (8-6, 4-0 MAC) had to overcome dropping the doubles point. WMU took the early advantage after a 6-3 win by Fynn Lohse and Anton Arzhankin at No. 2 over Marko Galic and Adam Kovac. But the Rockets responded with wins at one and three to take the lead.
Jackson Boone tied the match up at 1-1 after a 6-1, 6-3 win over Matias Olivero at No. 5. The Rockets took the lead back after Pawit Sornlaksup defeated Ben George 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1. Arjun Honnappa squared the match at 2-2 with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) win at No. 4 over Galic. Arzhankin picked up a win at No. 3 over Kovac, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 to give the lead back to Western Michigan before Lohse won the match after a 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 victory over Luis Klenschnitz. Toledo then picked up its third and final point after Krzystof Wetoszka defeated Peter Kuszynski 2-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4.
WMU heads back on the road to take on Northern Illinois on Saturday.
