MUNICE, Ind. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team opened up Mid-American Conference play on the road at Ball State, falling 7-0 to the Cardinals on Saturday.
WMU's Valeriya Monko and Lindsey Ziegler earned a win at No. 1 doubles to tie things up at 1-1 for the doubles point, but Jessica Braun and Emily Desai won the deciding match at No. 3 to give BSU a 1-0 lead heading into singles.
Ball State won five of the six singles matches in two sets. Freshman Ariane Souligny dropped a two-set heartbreaker at No. 5, with both sets going to tie-breakers.
The Broncos stay on the road, heading to Eastern Michigan next Friday at 1 p.m. and then off to Miami on Sunday for a 1 p.m. start.
