MUNCIE, Ind. – The Western Michigan men's tennis team came back from a 2-0 deficit to remain perfect in Mid-American Conference play after a 5-2 win at Ball State on Friday afternoon.
The Broncos (7-6, 3-0 MAC) uncharacteristically dropped the doubles point to the Cardinals. WMU started off strong with a win at No. 1 by Peter Kuszynski and Ferdinand Schlueter, 6-3, over Nathaniel Webster and Danilo Kovacevic. Ball State then won at No. 3, 6-4, and closed it out with a win at No. 2 to take a 1-0 lead.
The Cardinals pushed ahead, 2-0, after Webster defeated Kuszynski at No. 1, 6-4, 6-3. Then the comeback started. Brogan Pierce picked up a win at No. 6, 6-4, 6-4, over Petar Petrovic to cut the lead to 2-1. Senior Fynn Lohse then picked up a victory at No. 5, 6-3, 6-4 over Sajin Smith to tie it up at 2-2. The Broncos pulled ahead after Arjun Honnappa defeated Kovacevic 7-5, 6-2 at No. 3 and Anton Arzhankin clinched the match victory after beating Vince Orlando 6-2, 7-5. Jackson Boone picked up WMU's fifth and final point with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 win over Eli Herran at No. 4.
The Broncos are back on the road on Sunday at Toledo. The match starts at 1 p.m.
