KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan gymnastics team heads to Kent State University for the 2023 Mid-American Conference Gymnastics Championship Meet on Saturday beginning at 2 p.m.
The meet will be streamed live on ESPN+.
The Broncos won a share of the MAC Regular Season Championship last weekend after a win at Ball State. WMU is looking for its first MAC Championship Meet title since 2013.
Last season saw the Broncos finish third after leading for the majority of the meet. Individually, Payton Murphy won MAC titles on beam and floor, while Halle Faulkner was a champion on vault. The two were joined by Amanda Gruber on the MAC All-Tournament Team.
WMU heads into the meet as the top-ranked team in the MAC with a National Qualifying Score of 196.590. The Broncos also have the highest score so far in the conference, a 197.100 set against Northern Illinois on March 4. WMU's NQS has guaranteed it a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
Individually, the Broncos have gymnasts ranked in the top five in the MAC on bars, beam, floor and all-around. Sarah Moravansky ranks fourth on bars with an NQS of 9.870 and an average of 9.845. Amanda Gruber ranks second on beam with an NQS of 9.890 but her average of 9.857 leads the conference. Murphy is the top-ranked gymnast on the floor with an NQS of 9.915. She also boasts the high score of 9.975 in the event. Murphy holds the top spot in all-around with an NQS of 39.450, with her high being a school-record 39.550. Moravansky ranks fifth at 39.210.
WMU's rotation will be vault on rotation one, bye for rotation two, bars for rotation three, beam for rotation four, bye for rotation five, floor for rotation six and bye for rotation seven.
