Academic All-America® program released the 2022-23 Academic All-America® Teams, with guard
Lauren Ross earning a Third Team selection to become the second Academic All-American in program history.
The redshirt sophomore, standing at 5'10", maintained an average of 21.8 points per game throughout the season. She shot 46.5 percent (121-for-260) from the field, scoring a total of 371 points. Her three-point shooting percentage was 34.3 percent (35-for-102), while her free throw percentage stood at an impressive 83.9 percent (84-for-112). Additionally, Ross secured an average of 4.8 rebounds per game, with 40 assists, 24 steals, and one block throughout the season.
Ross sustained a knee injury during WMU's game against Buffalo on January 21st which forced her to miss the remainder of the 2022-23 season. At the time of the injury, Ross was leading in various categories in the Mid-American Conference, including field goals (121), total points (371), and points per game (21.8). Additionally, she ranked second in the MAC for free throws (94), fourth for field goal attempts (260) and free throw percentage (83.9), and sixth for three-pointers per game (2.06). On a national level, Ross stood at 17th for total points, eighth for points per game, and 15th for made free throws.
On December 17th, Ross achieved a career-best by scoring 35 points and securing eight rebounds, along with four assists and three steals in a game against Chicago State. Prior to her injury, Ross led the Broncos in scoring in 14 contests this season. The Muskegon, Mich., native showcased her three-point shooting skills in a win at Ohio on January 18th, as she buried a season-high five triples on 10 attempts. As the season concluded, Ross had amassed a total of 909 career points and 241 rebounds.
The 2022-23 Academic All-American® Women's Basketball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA. To be eligible for a 2022-23 Academic All-American® Men's Women's Basketball Team, an individual must first be selected for a 2022-23 Academic All-District® Women's Basketball Team.
