Broncos Finish Frost Classic with 6-1 Win over EIU

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Western Michigan softball team got an incredible performance from freshman pitcher Caitlyn Mullins and delivered nine hits to secure a 6-1 victory over Eastern Illinois University on Sunday in the final game of four at the Frost Classic this weekend.
 
Mullins tossed 3.2 innings and struck out three, allowing just two hits. Mullins was joined by Rissa Bajusz, who pitched 3.0 innings to pick up the win for WMU. Basjuz allowed three hits, one run, and struck out two.
 
Addison Hudson went 3-for-4 at the plate to earn a pair of runs and an RBI against EIU. Payton Kelly and Alyssa Kramer both registered 2-for-3 at bat as Kelly recorded two RBIs and Kramer two runs. Courtney Farrish added to the Bronco's offense as she went 1-for-3 at the plate to score two runs. 
 
The Broncos boasted to quick 3-0 lead in the first inning when Kramer and Hudson both singled. Farrish hit a two-run double to score Kramer and Hudson and advanced to third on a single by Kelly. Farrish was brought in for the final run of the inning on a ground out by Taylor Garey
 
EIU broke the defensive locks in the fourth when Kendall Grover had an RBI single to center that scored Jaylen Prichard.  
 
The Broncos answered shortly after when Kelly added a two-run double in the fifth to extend Western Michigan's lead, to 5-1. Hudson capped the scoring with an RBI single to left field in the sixth. 
 
WMU finished with a 6-1 victory over the Panthers of Eastern Illinois, registering a total of nine hits on the day. 
 
Western Michigan takes the field again next weekend with a series of three against the University of North Alabama. The first game of the series is scheduled for Saturday, March 4 at 3:00 pm in Florence, Ala.
