Broncos Drop Saturday Doubleheader at North Alabama

FLORENCE, Ala. – The Western Michigan softball team suffered a doubleheader sweep at the hands of North Alabama on Saturday afternoon. The Lions took game one, 3-1, before capturing the nightcap, 8-0.

In game one, Alyssa Kramer led off with a double for the Broncos. She advanced to third on a single by Addison Hudson, then scored on a Payton Kelly sacrifice fly to give WMU the early 1-0 edge. 
 
North Alabama would counter in the bottom of the first to add its first of three runs. The Broncos and Lions would battle the next four innings for another run.
 
Madysyn Lopez started and took the loss in the circle, allowing two earned runs in 1.2 innings of work. Rissa Bajusz threw 3.1 innings allowing one earned run with two strikeouts and Caitlyn Mullins pitched one inning to earn one strikeout. 
 
Game one went in favor of the Lions after a late pair of runs in the 6th inning put North Alabama up 3-1. 
 
In the nightcap, Autumn Godwin got the start in the circle, registered three strikeouts, and allowed just two earned runs in four innings of work.
 
The Broncos trailed 3-0 after the first inning and held North Alabama scoreless through the next three innings, but the Lions broke through with five runs in the fifth inning. 
 
Junior Hudson went 2-for-2 at the plate. Courtney Farrish, Haley Boxwell, and Riley Chumbley each went 1-for-2, while Kramer went 1-for-3. WMU concluded game two with a total of six hits. 
 
Western Michigan wraps up the non-conference series against the University of North Alabama with a single game tomorrow, March 5th at 1 pm. Sunday's single game will be streamed via ESPN+ and live scoring will be available for the contest as well and can be found HERE.
