Broncos Roll Past Mavericks for Third-Straight Win

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team picked up its third-straight win after downing Omaha, 4-0, in a neutral-site match on Friday afternoon.

After dropping the doubles point for the first time this season in their last match against Illinois-Chicago, the Broncos (4-2) rebounded and gutted it out for the point against the Mavericks. WMU gained the early advantage after a 6-1 win at No. 3 by Kaitlyn Rogosch and Ariane Souligny over Addison Miller and Zoe Adkins. UNO squared it up with a win at No. 2 by Keegan VanPelt and Brooke Covington, 6-4, over Karin Hamilton and Audrey Smitek. The point came down to the No. 1 match between Lindsey Zieglar and Valeriya Monko and Omaha's Jessica Aragorn and Ines Absisan. Zieglar and Monko improved to 5-1 as a pair this dual-match season after edging Aragorn and Absisan, 7-5.

Western Michigan quickly picked up three more points in singles play to claim the match win. The first win came at No. 3 by Monko, downing Miller 6-2, 6-2. Smitek pushed the lead to 3-0 with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Lillian Tiemeyer at No. 5 before Souligny clinched the victory with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 6 over Covington. Zieglar, Hamilton and Maya Perkucin all had their matches go unfinished.

The Broncos return home to West Hills Athletic Club on Sunday to host Cleveland State at 10 a.m. Admission is free, with live scoring available at www.wmustats.com.
