Women's Tennis Battles Omaha Friday Before Hosting Cleveland State on Sunday

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team heads to Chicago for a neutral-site match with Omaha on Friday afternoon before hosting perennial Horizon League contenders Cleveland State on Sunday at 10 a.m. at West Hills Athletic Club.
 
The Broncos (3-2) are fresh off a pair of home wins over Oakland (7-0) and Illinois-Chicago (4-3), improving to 3-0 at their home courts. Omaha is 2-3 on the season so far, with wins over Wyoming and Bradley. This is CSU's second trip to Kalamazoo during the 2022-23 season, having competed in the Bronco Super Challenge back in November. The Vikings are off to a strong st
 
STILL PERFECT
Along with its unblemished record at home, WMU has another perfect mark to boast about so far this season. Junior Karin Hamilton and freshman Audrey Smitek are 4-0 in the team's five matches so far this season. The pair have a 2-0 record at No. 2 and 2-0 at No. 3.
 
STRONG STARTS
Smitek has had just a strong of a start to her dual-match career in singles as she has in doubles. The Avon, Ohio native is 4-1 in singles so far. Smitek is 2-0 at No. 6 and 2-1 at No. 5. Fellow freshman Ariane Souligny has mirrored her record in singles, but going 2-0 at No. 5 and 2-1 at No. 6.

After Sunday the Broncos are on the road for their next nine matches. Western Michigan does not host a home match until Eastern Michigan comes to Kalamazoo on Friday, March 31 at 1 p.m.
