Charlie Sharp Named United Soccer Coaches National Scholar Player Of The Year

UNITED STATES –  The United Soccer Coaches announced that Charlie Sharp was named the National Scholar Player of the Year for his efforts on the field and in the classroom for the 2023 season.

With his selection, Sharp became the first Bronco in program history to earn the honor of the United Soccer Coaches National Scholar Player of the Year after earning a grade point average of 3.73 and leading the nation in goals with 19. During his time at Western Michigan, Sharp pursued a degree in Computer Information Systems.

In addition to his 19 goals, on the field Sharp accumulated eight assists and posted seven game-winning goals to lead the Broncos to a 17-1-4 record and a Sweet 16 appearance in the NCAA Tournament, where they lost to national runner-up Notre Dame on penalty kicks.

Previously, Broncos Brandon Bye (2017) and Anthony Bowie (2019) earned "National Scholar Athlete of the Year", while Sharp became the first in Western Michigan men's soccer history to earn the "National Scholar Player of the Year" title from United Soccer Coaches.
