AUSTIN, Texas – College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced its four Academic All-America Teams, which totaled 126 players that had a grade-point average of 3.86 while 30 members posted a perfect 4.0 GPA. At the conclusion of the 2023 season,
Dylan Sing and
Ethan Brandt were named to the CSC First Team, while
Charlie Sharp was awarded Second Team honors. Sing and Sharp were two of three repeat selections to the Academic All-America® Division I team this year.
For the first time in program history multiple Broncos have been selected to the CSC Academic All-America First Team. Additionally, for the fifth time in six years the men's soccer team has represented Western Michigan in the CSC Academic All-America First Team.
This season, Sing became the first Bronco since midfielder Anthony Bowie to earn the prestigious College Sports Communicators Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year award. Bowie had previously earned the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year at the conclusion of the 2019 season. Earlier this fall, Sing was selected the MVC Men's Soccer Scholar Athlete of the Year and was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-West Region first team.
For Brandt, 2023 marked the first time in his career that he was named to a CSC Academic All-America Team. With his selection, Brandt became the first goalkeeper in program history to earn CSC Academic All-America First Team honors.
As for Sharp, he earned CSC Academic All-America Second Team honors for the second consecutive year. Sharp's Second Team selection allowed the forward from Brighton, Michigan to become the second player in program history to earn Second Team honors for consecutive seasons. Mike Melaragni ('22) earned Second Team selections during the 2020, '21, and '22 seasons.
